Tyler Lurks calls himself archivist.

Through an unstructured process of archiving, research and painting, he sifts through the wreckage of history in order to understand its interconnectedness to the present and to trace the trajectory of the future. „By handling the overlooked and long forgotten oral histories that are excluded from the dominant cultural narrative we can use the archive as a primordial soup for imagining and calling upon potential alternative futures.“ The act of archiving nurtures a radical and compassionate readership into human history and a non-participation in the culture of ceaseless production and consumption; thus Lurks sees the paintings as portals into an unfinished past and a reopened future. "This is ecstasy induced urban folk mysticism, anuvva cap rising from the mycelia - eat it.“
